Fire service news

Excerpts from fordauthority.com:

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the automotive world has faced all sorts of struggles related to producing vehicles, chiefly because of various supply chain constraints. However, this is also true not only of the individual parts that are used to build new vehicles, but also the ones used to repair them, with some facing wait times of months and even years for their vehicles to be fixed. A fire department in Abington, Massachusetts found this out the hard way recently when their Ford F-550 ambulance was in need of a new engine, but it isn’t alone in that regard, as the Hingham Fire Department – also in Massachusetts – is also facing issues with its own Ford F-550 ambulance.

We’ll have more on Ford’s supply chain issues soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for the latest Ford F-Series newsFord Super Duty news, and continuous Ford news coverage.

Loves Park FD squad truck for sale

Found at goveals.com

1995 Chevrolet P30 FORWARD CONTROL, 5.7L V8 OHV 16V.

“AS IS” Dive Van. Mileage is our best guess based on maintenance records. Brakes need to be replaced. Needs new battery. Runs and drives, but currently needs to be jumped each time and the brakes are soft. This may need to be towed or trailered to the buyers location due to brakes needing work. Carbureted engine. Tires and rims are in good condition. The body has some minor defects and corrosion at some seams. Overall this rig looks pretty good for it’s age. This unit has been stored indoors for several years.

Some notable items included… -E-Q2B Federal Signal Siren -All emergency lights (most are LED) -Passenger side roll out awning -Built in storage in back

We are removing the Motorola radio prior to sale and all graphics that identify this unit as Loves Park Fire Dept.

Buyer is responsible for removing the van from Loves Park and transporting the van to its end destination.

Rendering of the new Fire Station 24 in Wheeling

Excerpts from the journal-topics.com:

Wheeling trustees unanimously approved construction for Fire Station 42 to be rebuilt at 135 McHenry Rd. with a maximum price tag of $7,699,244. Village officials say they have saved the money to make this happen, and would not need the support of taxpayers by referendum or lenders. Wheeling has been saving funds for this since 2019. Based on call volume and call location studies, the village needed to have two stations on the west side of the railroad tracks.

The project was introduced with a budget goal of $5 million, but flood detention fix costs exceeded the $5 million, prompting a higher expected cost. Construction on the 10,700 sq. ft. building should to break ground this spring and take a year to complete.

The new station will be substantially the same as Fire Station 23 at 780 S. Wheeling Rd. Since 2009, the current Station 42 has been shared with the Wheeling Police Department on Dundee Road. It was meant to be a temporary solution.

Bradley Fire Department news

Excerpts from the daily-journal.com:

The 2023 year for the Bradley Fire Department might go on record as one of its most transitional in its history.

The 30-member department — nine of whom are full-time officers — will be moving into its approximate $2.5-million second fire station along Newtown Drive in the northeastern portion of the village. The department had hoped to be in the location more than six months ago, but supplies and finishing-touch work have delayed that target.

In addition, a $237,000 ambulance was placed on order in September with American Response Vehicles, of Columbia, Mo., and could be delivered late this year. Also, a $584,546 fire engine was unanimously OK’d by the Bradley Village Board with Alexis Fire Equipment and delivery of the department’s third engine could happen in December. The village will pay for the new engine prior to delivery, the village will receive a modest $9,000 discount, and the fire department was able to find an existing new chassis in stock at Alexis which saved another $20,000.

The new engine and ambulance will be stationed at the Newtown fire station.

Fire Chief Don Kaderabek said the department had been somewhat neglected in previous years and for a village with growing areas of business and residences, these are needed resources for the community’s protection.

Currently, the village has two fire engines. One is 21 years old and will remain part of the fleet as a back-up.

thanks Dennis
