4500 block of N Austin in the wee hours of 2-28. These were taken the next day. I have not seen a car buried into the corner of a building like this before. Pretty amazing if you look closely. I am also amazed the CFD left the scene to what I guess would be a contractor to remove the wreckage. I would be worried about fire and collapse. I wasn’t there to see what preceded this so I am not in a position to really comment, but I thought these were worth a look.Steve

Notice how they hit the porch next door first. That unsupported column doesn’t look very good,either.

Auto into building response gets someone from the city’s building department who’s job it is to determine safety and any required remediation for safety of the building. If shoring etc is not needed for safety, CFD does not handle the aftermath.

That is a very good question that you pose Steve. I wonder if this is a new policy of the city or whether there was no contractor that was available in the wee hours of the morning? Either way it was probably okayed by at least the responding battalion chief and a police supervisor to leave the car in that position overnight. Perhaps the Special Operations Battalion Chief 515 also was notified as well? I would figure that a car in a building would get 515. That run would have at least gotten a full pin-in response, but being that a building was involved it is possible that a Still and Box was initially struck for a possible building collapse as well.

Hopefully the person and/or persons survived. How fast or stupid do you have to drive to do that?
