Steve loftin collectionFrom steve“Darley had a few rigs on order using the 1871W cab and chassis when Hendrickson sold that product line to Kovatch Mobile Equipment. Therefore, a handful were delivered with KME nomenclature. While I know of at least three of these, there were probably no more than a handful were delivered.Lyons, IL – Engine 311 198_ KME/Darley _?/_? – Diesel/_?

I don’t believe this engine ever went in service. I thought it was rejected by the fire department.

I believe Hendrickson was HQ’d in Lyons until sold. Be willing to bet that influenced sales to at least a few west and SW suburban FDs.

Keith is correct about the Brookfield rig. It was in production at Hendrickson when they quit and the cab/chassis was sold to KME. KME finished the cab/chassis with their logos and serial number blah blah 0001. It then went to E-one where a lame, poorly fitted body was installed. It was disposed of when the ’17 Pierce was put in service. I barely remember the Lyons rig. It wasn’t around long as they took delivery of twin ’89 Lances from pierce soon after.

Steve, Bridgeview Engine 415 (reserve) is a unique 1986 1871W/KME/Darley 1500/750. It was one of their first built with roll-up compartment doors and a hydraulic ladder rack delivered with wooden ladders! The chassis had an open crew cab (like the photo above) and Darley fabricated the enclosure which is separate from the actual cab and attached to the body.
I believe Cicero had 3 open cab 1871W/Darleys and Brookfield had similar engine with E-One bodywork.
