It is a 1952 Ward LaFrance 85T with a 750 GPM Pump and an overhead ladder rack. The overhead rack allows the engine to carry more ladders and was a common option for small fire departments who did not have a city service, service aerial or H&L. CFD also had ladder racks on several of their engines such as E88 in areas where ladder companies were not close by.

Yes it is a Ward LaFrance Crabby. Quite a few of these were in the burbs. Great rigs! This one I’m guessing to be 54-56.
Also the white object is a cover for the ladders it carried.

Some nice eye candy there. Question, what is on the top of the Western Springs white engine? Is it just some sort of cover/holder for the ladders, or is it for something else? I just haven’t really seen anything like that before.

A nice cross section of rigs there.
