Sandwich FPD news

Excerpts from the dailydispatch.com:

Funeral and visitation information has been announced for Sandwich’s late fire chief, Jason “Jake” Pruski, who passed away on Monday at the age of 47.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at the Sandwich Fire Department, 310 E. Railroad St. in Sandwich.  Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Sandwich, IL. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 2, 2019 at the Sandwich Fire Department.

Pruski was sworn-in as Sandwich’s fire chief in July of 2016, after serving with the district since 1989. Throughout his career, he served as a fire science teacher at Indian Valley Vocational Center in Sandwich and also a fire science instructor at Waubonsee Community College.

His father, Mike Pruski, and brother, Jeff Pruski additionally served as a Sandwich firefighters.

Gary Fire Department history

In the early 70’s the GFD took over the EMS transport service. Prior to that the local funeral homes handled all ambulance transports. The original ambulances were donated from the funeral homes. The FD started the EMS service with 4 ambulances, two BLS and two ALS. This was the first custom ambulance to be put in service. It was a 1974 Dodge/ National. It was assigned to Medic 501 an ALS ambulance at Station 1.
