Bridgeview Fire Department news

Excerpts from the ChicagoSunTimes.com:

A man was arrested after allegedly stealing a Bridgeview Fire Department SUV Thursday and driving it from the southwest suburb to the Loop. The man, who is from Chicago and may be homeless, took the unoccupied fire department command vehicle while it was idling in front of the fire house at 7350 W. 100th Place.

The suspect was able to get past the vehicle’s security measures and drive off before anyone could follow him. Authorities first noticed the vehicle was missing at 11:05 a.m. Police in neighboring Burbank spotted the vehicle near 87th and Harlem Avenue.

The man drove the SUV through Chicago before he was ultimately stopped about 1 p.m. on Lake Shore Drive near Monroe Street. A Chicago police helicopter was used to track the vehicle. The SUV was not damaged during the pursuit, but officers had to break a window to get the man out and take him into custody.

thanks Dennis

Springfield Fire Department news

Excerpts from foxillinois.com:

The Springfield Fire Department was called to the 1300 block of West Miller around 7:30 a.m on Tuesday. When firefighters arrived, they found the house heavily involved in flames. While searching for people who may have been trapped inside, a firefighter fell through a hole in the floor into the basement. A mayday alert was immediately issued which triggered a second alarm response to the scene.

Other firefighters were able to rescue the firefighter within 15 minutes. He was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The home is a total loss and the fire department is investigating the cause of the fire.
