After 30 years of service to the citizens of Buffalo Grove, Firefighter/Paramedic Randy Buttliere is retiring on July 17, 2019. Randy began his career in the fire service in 1982 as an Explorer with the Niles Fire Department, was then a Paid-On-Call member of the North Main Fire Protection District in 1986 and went on to work part-time in the Glenbrook Fire Protection District (which was since absorbed by the Glenview Fire Department) before coming to Buffalo Grove in July of 1989. Randy held several positions in the Department including being a 20-year Dive Team member. Randy also trained and tested Department personnel in emergency driving and has been responsible for ensuring the safety of the fire hose carried on all Fire Department vehicles.

Randy received the Village ABCD Award in 2006 for an event that occurred during the summer of 2005 when a resident’s basement was flooding. Station 25, where Randy was stationed, was dispatched to assist. The sump pump in the home had failed and the homeowner needed a new pump. As it was late at night, Randy went to his own home, brought back his back-up sump pump, and let the resident use it until the morning when he could buy a new pump.

Randy has always been an aficionado of fire vehicles and will be a sales representative for a major fire apparatus manufacturer after he retires. Randy is the last active member of the Department to still live in Buffalo Grove.

The Village of Buffalo Grove wishes Randy and his family all of the best in their future!
