Prospect Heights firefighters were called to 1535 Cove Drive this afternoon at 12:28 (5/3/19) for a reported fire in a laundry room at a four-unit townhouse. The incident was upgraded to a working fire prior to the arrival of companies and then a Box Alarm when Battalion 9 arrived reporting flames through the 2nd floor roof. First arriving units had heavy fire out the front door, the laundry room was fully engulfed in fire, and flames were traveling up the outside of the building to the roof. The bulk of fire on the first floor was knocked down quickly and companies then attacked fire on the second floor and in the attack. Damage to the adjoining units minimal.

Companies at the scene were Prospect Heights Engine 39, Engine 9, Tower 9, Battalion 9, and chiefs 901 and 900; Wheeling Engine 23, Engine 42, Truck 24, Battalion 24 and Chief 2401; Mount Prospect Engine 14 and Battalion 3; Des Plaines Tower 63 and Chief 6101; Northbrook Tower 12 and Ambulance 12; Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Squad 51; Arlington Heights Engine 2 and Chief 101; Northfield Squad 29; North Maine Engine 1 and Battalion 1; Palatine Ambulance 82; Glenview Ambulance 8; Long Grove Battalion 55; and Buffalo Grove Engine 26.

A police officer was transported to the hospital with minor injuries incurred while evacuating people from the unit.
