Excerpts from the NWHerald.com:

The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department was called about 8:40 p.m. Friday 4/5/19 to the 200 block of West Woodstock Street in Crystal Lake. One person was home when the fire started. A neighbor notified that person of the fire who escaped before firefighters arrived.

Smoke and flames were coming from the second floor and roof when firefighters arrived. Crews attempted to enter the home, but retreated because the entire attic area was on fire.

Firefighters worked to bring water to the building from the outside, and the fire was under control by about 10 p.m. No one was injured in the fire, and the cause is under investigation.

A MABAS 2nd Alarm was called to bring in assistance from other area departments. The fire caused extensive damage to the home, which was deemed uninhabitable. Estimated damage is $125,000, according to the department.
