That came from the chief who did the initial manning cuts. It won’t be that way for long

Guys–If you read one of the previous posts on this topic, the issue of staffing and apparatus was addressed. They are consolidating Stations 8 & 9 into one, which means the manpower from Station 9 is there to be used. I believe it was said the new Station 8 would have a quint, engine and ambulance staffed at all times.

Consolidation of two stations into one and instead of testing the waters with rigs that are bought and paid for, they spring for a new million dollar quint. They’ll turn that station into a jump company house just like what they did with their main station. Like all the other departments doing it, you gotta start slowly so before the fellas notice, they’re already behind the 8ball. It’s just a bean counting position once you get to the top and I see the writing on the wall for EG. They’re already going to be reducing their response effectiveness by consolidating so you can’t argue that they’re making moves that make sense.

Matthew can you explain?

Elk Grove hasn’t cut staffing by way of lay-off or attrition. But they’ve dumped they’re daily manning quite significantly since the new administration came in. They’re new station is priming the pump for another jump company no doubt.

No staff cuts, just consolidating two firehouses. Station 8 built 20+ years ago will be torn down to accommodate the EGV Technology Development Park. This town has plenty of $$.

Mike, I don’t think EGVFD has cut anything. They spent 24 million on 2 new stations. Purchase a new quint, new dive/water rescue vehicle and this battalion vehicle in just the last year. And those are just the things we know of on this site. Their chief has even been on here commenting on different issues. It sounds like they are keeping the same staffing just consolidating to 3 more useful stations.

Mike L,
Did Elk Grove cut staffing? I know they are combining firehouses but didn’t see staffing cuts.

With all the cuts in staffing and firehouses, they can afford nicer stuff for staff now! Does look nice, though! Has to. Batt Chief can’t ride broke.
