1985 Grumman Aerial Cat Fire Truck
This is a one of a kind extra heavy duty custom built Quint Tower Ladder! This unit was constructed as a joint project with Grumman Aerial Cat and American La France. The frame was constructed of extra heavy gauge US Steel, with a stainless steel cab and steel ladder. (GW72,000 lbs) A military spec rebuilt engine consisting of a Detroit Diesel 8V-92TA, with less then 15,000 miles was installed in 2018, along with a completely refurbished radiator and cooling system. The unit has a 2,000 gpm pump, with a pre-piped water way and breathing air system, Two additional master stream deck guns are also located on each side of the unit, for extra fire power. A full compliment of ground ladders and pike polls are also included, The on-board generator set has also been recently refurbished.

The E-One tower ladder was purchased by Bellwood to replace their 1986 Grumman. Hillside has the Pierce aerial and Westchester bought an E-One Aerial to replace the mid mount Maxim. At one time there were 4 Grumman towers just in the old Div 7 (Melrose Park ’84, Broadview ’85 ALF/Grumman, Hillside & Bellwood ’86 “triplets” (Des Plaines TL 81 was the 3rd))

This is owned by a collector who has owned it since it went out of service. He is a regular at the musters with his other ALF rigs. He lives out of the Chicago area. It is truly a one of a kind rig with the ALF cab on what is more or less the same rig Bellwood and Hillside had Broadview wanted a matching fleet of all ALF and had the cab specially added

It was a new engine they bought a few years ago and not a new tower.
They now run with an engine, ambo, and squad only. No more tower ladder

Curious to know where this truck has been hiding the past few years. Broadview bought a new E-One tower a few years ago.

This truck has been gone from Broadview for a couple years. Believe it has been in the hands of a private owner.

What an absolutely beautiful truck! Cosmetically it looks great for 34 years old and I bet it sounds awesome with that Detroit! Hopefully it finds a new home and doesn’t get scrapped out. Other than Palos Heights, CFD, Prospect Heights and Rolling Meadows, this has to be the last of the true ALF Century apparatus around in the metropolitan area.
Was the body ever refurbished or is it original? How long has Quint 7 been O.O.S.? Is Broadview planning on purchasing another truck?
