E12 is staffed by callback personnel, otherwise it is not normally in service.

Thanks for the information Dan. I take it that the squad was originally to run out of Station 12 like the previous Squad 12, or was it always intended to replace Engine 11 since it has engine company capabilities?
If I am correct and 5 reported for duty at Station 12, then the squad would be out of service. If there were 6 then would the tower and squad each run with 2 as a two piece company? With 7 on duty would the tower run with the normal 3-man compliment and the squad with 2? About how often was the squad in service when they ran with Tower Ladder 12? Thanks

Michael, According to the Pierce Schematic Drawing, it has a pretty big hosebed with room for a total of
200 ft of 1.75″,
850 ft of 2.5″,
700 ft of 3″,
700 ft of 5′.
As well as
2 200 ft 1.75″ crosslays
1 200 ft of 2.5″ crosslay.

If Engine 11 is now the reserve, I am guessing they are getting rid of one of the 1996 Pierces. I wonder how much less hose the new squad has compared to Engine 11. Hopefully it still has the same amount of cross lays. I would guess there is 5 inch off the back. Beyond that I wonder if there really is any less hose.

That seems to make sense Mike. For the new unit to run as Squad 11 it must be a pumper/squad and the question that I have is how does the hose differ from the amount that Engine 11 had? In other words since it is really trying to be two types of units have they had to reduce some of Engine 11’s capabilties in order to run a combination pumper/squad?

I take it with the new squad 12 going to squad 11 that engine 11 is going to be a spare and the tower will run on its own now. The old squad was either cross manned or only staffed when staffing allowed.
