Fox River and Countryside Fire Rescue District news (more)

The Board of Trustees of the Fox River and Countryside Fire Rescue District have called for a special meeting on Monday March 6, 2017 at 630 pm. The meeting will be held as a Town Hall session focused on providing the district residents with information and facts about the pending referendum ballot question seeking an increase in the fire district tax levy. The goal of this meeting is to help residents understand the current condition of their fire department and exactly why this request is so important. Information provided will include important financial information about the fire district budget, the condition of the apparatus fleet and equipment and also an understanding of the department capabilities with regard to current staffing. In addition, residents will be able to compare the Fox River and Countryside Fire Rescue District levy against its neighboring fire agencies and how your fire district rating affects your homeowners insurance. Please attend this important meeting and bring a neighbor along with your questions and concerns. This Town Hall Meeting will be hosted at Fire Station 1, 34W500 Carl Lee Road

Waldo Fire Department news

Active Duty Death Notification – Our condolences to the family, friends, and fire family of firefighter Ryan Moyer of the Waldo Fire Department. Ryan died Saturday, February 4th. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time.

Sheboygan County is mourning the loss of one of its volunteer firefighters who died Saturday in a crash near Adell.

Just before 4:30 PM on Saturday, February 4th, the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Department received a call regarding a motor vehicle crash involving a pick-up truck at Blueberry Lane and Pheasant Valley Road in the Town of Lyndon.

The sheriff’s department identified the driver as Ryan T. Moyer, who was a volunteer firefighter at the Waldo Fire Department.

Earlier in the day, Moyer and three others went out to post flyers for the for the 43rd annual Waldo Fire Department Brat Fry scheduled for Sunday, March 12th. Moyer and two friends were reportedly returning from the Random Lake Pizzeria when the truck went off the roadway, through a ditch and into a field. When first responders firefighters arrived, they found Moyer trapped.

26 year old Nicholas A. TeBeest was air lifed by Flight for Life and is recovering at Froedtert Hospital. 26 year old Tyler J. Collins of Waldo was taken to Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center by ambulance. Collins is also a volunteer firefighter.

According to firefighters, Moyer was a dedicated family man who was passionate about firefighting and serving his community. In 2015, he was name Firefighter of the Year. Moyer leaves behind a wife, Julie, and a three month old son.

As of Sunday morning, funeral arrangements had not yet been announced.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing according to the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Department. Speed and alcohol are being investigated at as potential factors.

The Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company on Feb. 4 announced the death of former Chief Stu Stone after a prolonged illness.

He joined the fire company at the age of 21 on July 12, 1963, and served for more than 53 years until his death Feb. 4, according to a news release from the company.

Stone was elected chief of the fire company in April 1978, and he remained in that position until April 2001. Since then, he remained involved in all aspects of the fire company, offering the guidance and wisdom gained from his more than 50 years in the fire service.

Stone also was the former publisher of the Glen Ellyn News, now the Glen Ellyn Suburban Life.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Feb. 9 and 3 to 9 p.m. Feb. 10 at Leonard Memorial Home, 565 Duane St., Glen Ellyn. Funeral service will be Feb. 11, time and place pending.
