New engine for Batavia

Here are a few ‘quickie’ pictures of our brand-new E-One Typhoon 1500-GPM pumper. It should be in-service at Station 1 within the next 2 weeks after all firefighters receive training. It’s our first E-One- can’t wait to try it out!

Its a nice truck with a nice touch with the saying. The Engine looks very traditional and a nice low hosebed. Batavia should be proud of what their committee designed with the great folks at E-One.

Thanks for the history lesson on that Drew. As far as I know, Oak Lawn was the first area department to sport that motto followed by Kankakee.

The new engine will replace our circa late 90’s/early ’00 Pierce rescue-style engine (which was originally used as a rescue squad engine, first in- service as Squad 5, then as Engine 1- as a regular engine company- always having been at Station 1).

Our current Engine 3 (circa 1990 Pierce) is for sale. The current Engine 1 will become Engine 3 and be the reserve engine at Station 1.

The new Engine 1 will continue to operate as a traditional medic engine company, like our Engine 2.

That motto has been used by numerous departments across the U. S. for more than 40 years. Just Google it. I have a certificate from the Emergency Squad Training Institute issued in 1979 that has that motto on it. Here’s the DoD’s history of its use.

It’s ironic how everyone steals Oak Lawn’s motto, “The desire to serve, the courage to act, the ability to perform.”

I will ask the obvious question–which front-line engine does this replace & which reserve engine is being retired/sold?
I will say that I like the design & I really like the motto on the side of the engine.
