Huntley Firefighter’s Union Local #4106 is going to be hosting their 1st Annual St. Baldricks Head Shaving Event on Sunday, March 16th at Rookie’s in Huntley, IL. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity dedicated to raising money for life-saving childhood cancer research and funds more in childhood cancer grants than any organization except for the U.S. government. Since the Foundation’s first grants as an independent charity in 2005, St. Baldrick’s has funded more than $101 million to support the most brilliant childhood cancer research experts in the world. Because kids with cancer often lose their hair during treatment, “shavees” for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation show their support by shaving their heads voluntarily, and inspiring friends and family to donate money to support childhood cancer research.

The Chicago Tribune has an article about a fully-involved house fire Wednesday in Hoffman Estates:
No one was injured when a Hoffman Estates home caught fire Wednesday afternoon, authorities said. Fire Chief Jeff Jorian said police arrived at the scene just before 2 p.m. to find the single-family house, on the 1000 block of Basswood St., engulfed in flames. The three adults in the home at the time escaped uninjured, including one who has a disability that requires a wheelchair, he said. He said it appeared that the fire started in the garage before spreading to the ranch-style house. A resident in a nearby apartment complex called 911.
The fire left the home uninhabitable and caused some exterior damage to a home to the south, according to Jorian.
“There was a lot of smoke pretty quick with this one,” he said. “There’s fire damage through at least half of the house, but extensive smoke damage throughout.”
Schaumburg firefighters arrived on the scene first, Jorian said, because there was initially some confusion as to where the fire was located. The apartment complex of the resident who called 911 is in Schaumburg, he said. This is the third fire in that neighborhood in the past few years, Jorian said, though he called it a coincidence.
thanks Dan
