This from Dennis McGuire, Jr.
I’m pretty sure this is the X-Oak Forest, Illinois Snorkel that went to Riverdale, Illinois but was never put in service because they ended up using the X-Muster, Indiana Snorkel. This belongs to a company called Public Safety Direct at 14000 S. Kildare Ave. in Crestwood, Illinois. If it is the Oak Forest Snorkel, then it would be a 1972 FWD/Pierce/Snorkel unknown pump and tank size, 85′ Snorkel.Dennis McGuire Jr.

Yeah. RSS1 will go when the last guy at 35″s house who still can drive stick retires! LOL! That rig is a blast to drive! And still pretty as hell.

Yes she’s a stick ,like a real fire truck is, I thought for the size and weight she was fairly easy to drive , maneuvering into position was harder maybe. e 91 the FWD and the 86 Hendrickson Darley were pains to drive, but that was the fun part of learning stick shift. good times then. OFFD 1978-1988.

I am curious to see how the new Rosenbauer “Snorkels” perform, and if the 55′ design can be adapted to a longer boom setup. Maybe a simple chassis with a longer boom could become the next spare Snorkel for the next 40 years….

CFD wouldn’t want it because it is a stick( i don’t think that any of the reserve for cfd are sticks) my uncles work for oak forest and my one uncle was one of the few guys that knew how to drive a stick! My uncle also told me that it was very hard to shift

Should CFD make an offer as a possible reserve to the reserve snorkel…? They have put it into service several times in the last year. (Just kidding.)
